Smile Stats…

Of course, we focus on smiles all of the time, but we ran across some interesting Smile Stats the other day, and thought you might like to see them:

99.7 – Percentage of adults who say an attractive smile is an important personal asset.

74%- Percentage of people who say that an unattractive smile can hurt a person’s chances for business or career success.

63%- Percentage of people who say they look best in photos when they are showing their teeth.

23%- Percentage of people who say they look the best with their mouth closed.

1897- Mark Twain writes this: “Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been!”

This is interesting:
62- Number of times a day the average woman smiles.
8- Number of times a day the average man smiles.

Isn’t that interesting? Why do you think that men don’t smile more?

The whole purpose of quoting these statistics is to simply focus on the fact that the smile and the act of smiling is a very uncomplicated and important human activity. And it really isn’t important that your smile be perfect- what is important is that you give it away! The person you don’t smile at has no idea of why you aren’t smiling at them, and most likely, they will take it to mean that you don’t care enough about them to give them that effort! Our office can fix an ailing smile, but we can’t do anything about someone who chooses not to smile!

One of the most consistent things I have heard from people who move to Raleigh from other areas is how nice it is to meet people who smile and are friendly- it just makes things more relaxed and makes people feel more comfortable more quickly.

So, in conclusion, my message is that if you don’t like your smile, we can help you. But no matter how you feel about your smile, it will likely help others when you give it to them!

Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing. ~Mother Teresa
